Even though I don't know (yet) what zabaglone is, the menu sounds outstanding to me!

Let's hope that spinach is no longer a threat to the population then. ;-)

j/k

It sounds great. I'm guessing (pardon my ignorance on such things) that the Ravioli is pasta, meat, and cheese. No evil tomatoes?

Yep - no evil tomatoes. Just pasta and cheese with a meat sauce.

Mmmmm...gnocchi. *blinks* oh, I'm sorry, was there other stuff on the menu? *reads* Yes, quite lovely :)

sounds yummy to me.

I wonder if there are any Italian citrus drink recipes in the sources. If not, I think syrup of lemon would complement this meal and so would the pomegranate drink (but I'll admit to being uber-fond of pomegranates and willing to drink them at all times) and I'd like to see if the syrup of lemon recipe works with oranges as well.

And even if y'all don't like these ideas, I have a kitchen experiement to keep me busy :)

And yes, that was an offer to make drinks for the event, including an audition since none of you have ever experienced my culinary prowess. That is if you want to have them and if LLT finds a recipe she likes and trusts someone else to do :)

I'm not so good at the research and translation, but I'm pretty good at the trial and error of redacting and the making lots of syrup-y goo.

As soon as my kitchen's working, I'll mix some up for tasting.

so, other than the pork loin there won't be any meat courses? that should make the cooking times fairly short, which is good, but I wonder if it won't make some folks grumble...

and I am also keenly aware of a dearth of pie or anything pie like.

otherwise, it sounds lovely! what is "Royal Sauce" and what does rice cooked "the Italian way" mean? risotto?

Consume = beef soup
Talapia = white fish
plus pork

sweets
Apple fritters
Figs
Golden Sops = french toast

Don't worry, the way things usually go, by the time we get to the feast I'll have posted all of the recipes and we will have tested every recipe at least once. Plus we will have one night where we will do the whole feast for a table of 8 to see how it works together.

Need to wait for LLT's recipes to see what Royal Sauce and rice cooked in the Italian way are

I think you need the olives for balance in the first course. Why consume/consome? I agree that the original course two would have thrown the whole thing off balance. However I am tempted to suggest the gnocchi go with the fish course. YMMV. Sounds yummy!!!

Hrmm...did you see it before I made the changes? The Squash Torte was originally in the second course and got moved cause LLT really wants to make it. That is why the olives got nixed.

I'll bring up your thoughts with LLT and see what she thinks.

LLT says the consome is because the event is Jan 20 - which should be cold. She thought it would be a good way to start the feast to warm people up.
