A repost on some walk information

Because aluminmug requested it I'm posting this info again.

So you know how LLT and I are planning on walking for 3 Days in the Komen walk?

If'n you have the money to spare please consider donating some to our walking accounts. My donation site is www.the3day.org/goto/Orla and LLT's is www.the3day.org/goto/Tirzah.

But what if you don't have any money to donate? Or what if you want to do something extra special to encourage us? The Komen people have something that you can do too!

From the August Newsletter:

There’s nothing like a letter from a loved one to inspire you to keep going. Your friends, family and supporters can write a letter to you, which we’ll deliver to you on the event at the Breast Cancer 3-Day Camp Post Office.

Send letters to:
Breast Cancer 3-Day Camp Post Office
PO Box 299
Gore, VA 22637-0299

Envelopes only, please. No boxes or large packages. Mail must be postmarked no later than September 29th in order to ensure delivery at the Breast Cancer 3-Day Camp Post Office. Any mail that is not retrieved by the participant by October 23rd will be destroyed.

**LLT's name is Evelyn Brady and mine is Elizabeth Nelson

Also here is information if you want to come and cheer us on during the walk!

It's why I won't ever walk. I've known this for years because reports like this one always get buried in some odd section of the health pages. Americans want a wonder drug to cure them or a vaccine to prevent it, so they can eat too much, drink too much, exercise too little and get away with it. If a vaccine came out that would decrease the chances of getting breast cancer by 40% people would be racing to the docs to get stuck.

I get the whole personal responsiblity thing - really I do. But the funds raised by these walks don't go ONLY to looking for a cure. They also go to research into prevention and education.

If you're interested you can actually see a list of recipients of from the Avon foundation. One of the things that I learned when I went the closing ceremonies for the Avon walk last year was that one of the groups they fund does a type of "meals on wheels" program for cancer patients.

Here is a link to the Komen website regarding their grant programs.

Some of these grants go to fund programs to get people to have mamograms who can't necessarily afford it, others look into ways that the disease can be prevented and others go into how to deal with the disease after you get it.

Heck, it's entirley possible that the study mentioned in the article you linked to was at least partially funded by either the Avon or the Komen organization.
