Fun with music

I'm on the seventh floor of the building with no access to a window. This, of course, means I don't have any radio reception. Streaming audio is forbidden, and I've been told they are cracking down on it. My CD player/clock radio has decided to be really finicky so it skips at every smudge or small scratch on a cd. So I decided to hop on E-bay and find myself an MP3 player, which arrived Monday.

I have a cake due on Saturday for which we've been molding chocolates and my physical therapist has given me 45 minutes of exercises to do every night so needless to say I haven't had a lot of time to rip CDs. Plus last night our internet service was down. So every CD I ripped last night has the title and author but none of the songs listed. Plus I was in a hurry to go to bed after finishing my exercises at 10 p.m. so I just selected the CDs and transferred them.

With my music tastes this, of course, means I have a very interesting mix on the player. No objection to that, just to the order in which they are playing:

I don’t suppose I need to point out to you that with CDs from musicals (and most CDs for that matter) there is a REASON the songs are in a specific order. They flow naturally into one another and if there is any dialog at the end of a song it generally is in context to one of the two songs surrounding it.

Plus I rarely hit random on my CD player, which means that after playing a CD a few times I can anticipate which song is coming up next, even if there is no rhyme or reason for the song order. Needless to say this has been an interesting day musically.

Note: For those of you who are wondering, if there is more than one song off a CD on this list, it means I own the CD. With the exception of “Kill Bill”, if there is less than two songs I probably got it from a friend.

And yes – I have figured out in the course of listing these songs what the order is. If there are no titles, the Rio Player is doing them in numerical order by the first digit then second digit, (i.e. 1, 10… 19, 2, 20…). If the song has a title, they are in alphabetical order. Still no clue as to why in some places it goes back and forth between albums but not in others.
