Sundown Towns

I was so late going home tonight that I got to hear the Kojo Nnamdi Show. He had James Loewen on talking about his new book Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism.

From the WAMU website
In the 20th century, many localities had laws forbidding blacks to be in town after dark. Called Sundown Towns, these were not a Southern phenomenon. Rather, as historian Jim Loewen explains, hundreds of such towns existed across the Northeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic.
