Help/Advice Please

It's that time again - Time to start worrying about writing a recommendation letter.

I'm pretty happy with the "pimping" I've done for LLT. I think the "right" people are talking about her, and eventually she'll get the recognition she deserves. Now I've decided to turn my attention to frederich.

In spite of the fact that he's been making armor for as long as I've know him and he's made some VERY spiff pieces, plus teaching many times at University, he has no A&S awards. I'd like to fix this. The problem, of course is that I know next to nothing about armor.

I've started the process by making sure that his child sized arms were at the Pennsic A&S display. I've also sent an e-mail to the Atlantian University addresses to see if I can get a list of the classes he's taught. We've set up a SCA Resume page for him and I've sent an e-mail to his Laurel (who lives in Texas) to see if he can give me advice of things to mention in the letter. My question is really for those of you who play in armor. Any advice? Anything else I can do to come up with ideas of what to write?

Do any of you have knowledge of things I should include?

BTW, here is an interesting picture. That is Robin from Drakenvald (the short one). The arm armor that I linked to earlier is stuff that fredrich made for her.

Here's some more pictures showing Robyn's relative size, btw ...

As to frederich himself -- I can't find any classes credited to him on the University website. With the new system, it can automatically file classes (over the past dozen sessions or so) by instructor or student -- so, for example, you can find out about dr_zrfq's classes, gamelyn's classes, elizabethnmafia's classes, etc. So once frederich's in the system (not sure why he isn't, especially if he's taught classes recently), you should be able to link it up from a single URL.

I found some links to articles he's written -- is his surname "von Teufel" or "von Teufen"? -- and maybe those would be good to include on his résumé as well. There's also this photo of his Gothic Milanese elbow cops from the Open Armor Competition at Spring Coronation 2005.

Encourage frederich to submit articles to The Oak and Tournaments Illuminated, also. (There'll be an opportunity to teach classes at Kingdom Crusades this autumn, too.)

She is SCARY small for a fighter.

I've mentioned him writing stuff for the Oak and TI, but since I've just mentioned it to him in the last month or so and he's very good at procrastination, I figure it'll be a little bit.

According to the OAP he is Frederich von Teufen, but I think he wanted to register von Teufel and that's what he tends to go by. He just couldn't get it past the hearlds.

I do know he's taught classes, since the same University that LLT and I taught "let them eat cake" we hauled all his books down for a class he was teaching.

So yeah The award letter should mention the sytle of the armors and that they were well received at Pennsic. Point to how many years he has been at it and any locals that have benefited either by learning or by aquitition.

see that's the problem - I don't have a clue what the style of armors are.

Okay, that narrows it down -- weirdly, there are no instructors listed for the "Let Them Eat Cake" class! -- but I don't see him listed as an instructor for any of the classes, either.

Maybe the thing to do is to look at one of the articles he has written, and make some suggestions on revising it for potential publication? Or, if there's a subject that he's been working on recently, suggest that he write an article on that, specifically?

Okay, now wondering how you're looking up the class lists, cause I can't find it on the website. I've just added my own registration.

Go to http://university.atlantia.sca.org/classes.aspx -- at the top, there's a drop-down menu by the word "University" -- the default list is "68. Shire of Isenfir" but you can pull it down to any past session, I think.

I give up! Can't even find the let them eat cake class listing

The earlier universities have the instructors completely screwed up -- a random check of UoA's where I *knew* I taught specific courses yielded *no* mention of me as an instructor, and the courses I knew I taught were listed under one of the students.

Joyness - looks like they need someone to QC their information.

I think these are all the pictures I have of her in armour.

It amazes me how tiny she is and yet she fights! I wonder how hard the tall guys find fighting someone that short.
