LLT should talk to Keilyn about how much she is choosing to accommodate this in cooking meals where TRM will be there (like this weekend).

an explanation od sorts ...
first i would like to say that this information was provided for a very specific reason to an individual or 2 ... they were going to provide a lunch specifically for Us and had asked what Our preferences are.
We have not posted food preferences to Our whims list yet and it will not be nearly this extensive ... because that simply is not needed.
the list of items that i will not eat is actually quite short with the 2 most prominent being pork and meat on the bone ...other than that i am actually willing to try just about anything and have never left a feast hungry.
We most definitely do not expect head cooks for any feast to cater to Our specific food likes or dislikes, although it is a delight to Us when they choose to do so for one or 2 dishes.
Please know that i am not upset by anything that has been said but i simply felt an urgent need to attempt to clarify what i perceived as possible misrepresentations and misunderstandings.

LLT says - you sit on the throne representing Atlantia, almost always on the go to events all over the kingdom. When you are at events you are always on display, when you're not at events you work your butt off for the kingdom. The least we can do is think about your likes/dislikes when planning a meal for you.

Orla says - I put this here more for our reference because LLT really would like to cook for you and it will be useful in her planning. Frankly, looking at your list, YOU are easy.

We've cooked for His Majesty before. Although not period he is also easy - just a little more work because we usually don't cook 2 pounds of bacon for a feast. We just add a few more dishes specifically for him.

I wonder what any of our food preferences would look like, if written down! The things people grow to enjoy and dislike are so individual as to always make an interesting list. The (dis)advantage of being Royalty is that so many people become familiar with your particular preferences.

I was in the kitchen for the feast Keilyn cooked and got to have the fun of building the hot-dog castle.

There was a comment made a choir the the queen, while being able to express preference, is the hostess, at every event she attends. You do NOT turn your nose up, you can say no thank you or just not eat it, but please...

His Majesty is going to have a coronary... I really can't believe that is all he eats.

Ahh, but what he doesn't list is that he either likes green grapes or red grapes (I can never remember which).

I agree that feasts should not be tailored to the Royals but at the same time it's the same as with any person who has an allergy, you want to make sure that they have enough to eat. With Royals since they are expected to go to every feast that standard can slide a little to preferences - but not the whole feast.

His Majesty has mentioned in the past that one of his favorite feasts ever was one made by LLT. She didn't change the feast one bit - but did cook him a pound of bacon and served his batch of cheese ravioli with Savory Toasted Cheese - which is the ONLY time she has served STC at a feast. We also provided him with a box of frozen Ho-Hos for dessert.

To his credit, while His Majesty is VERY picky about what he will eat, he does not go to feasts when he is not Prince or King and really doesn't expect a lot of special effort to be made. And yes, I don't expect to see him reach an old age.

At the baronial business meeting there was some mention that if the Royal schedule is tight we might not even have a separate investiture -- it could be done at another event or even at Gulf Wars.

I didn't want to prolong the discussion at that time, but I question whether that's true because we're talking about a LANDED baronage here. It doesn't seem fair to impose a new baronage on the populace from afar, especially when the vast majority of the populace does not go to Gulf Wars.

But who knows, I may be worrying for nothing again....

I don't think I want to comment on this idea.

Yeah, I don't blame you. :-)

And I agree that His Majesty has a very unhealthy diet (assuming he eats like that when he's not at SCA events too). I mean, I like cheese, hot dogs, bacon and chocolate as much as the next person, but I know I have to vary my diet too. *sigh*
Sep. 21st, 2006 05:39 pm (UTC)
My understanding is that he eats like that in private life as well.

An allergy!!!!!??? They do NOT have allergies - all that processed food is stuffed with every allergen except shellfish. And while she is just picky, he is headed for colon cancer. Bleah.

You missed the sentence where I said that for Royals they should be allowed a little bit of preference. But it's limited to the way we handle allergies - they might not like/eat every dish but there should be enough dishes on the menu that they still have something to eat. Any more than we'd have an entire feast that doesn't include onions just cause someone is allergic to onions - we just tell them which dishes not to eat and make sure they still get enough to eat.

Yes that's giving the Royals leeway that I wouldn't give anyone else - but they are traveling most weekends for our game and are expected to go the feasts when they are at an event. We should give them a little leeway.

I have no doubt that His Maj wouldn't be eatting feast if he wasn't on the throne, so we cut him a little slack.

Hi! Do you mind if I add you?
Sep. 25th, 2006 01:44 am (UTC)
I was hoping you would. The only reason I had not yet friended you was I wasn't sure you remembered me.
